Explore with us!

International travel is a powerful tool for broadening perspectives and fostering cross-cultural understanding. It exposes us to diverse histories, art, and traditions, helping us see the world through different eyes and deepening our connection to humanity’s shared experience.

At the Cleo Redd Fisher Museum, we recognize the value of global exploration. While we are deeply committed to preserving and sharing local history, we also believe it’s essential to connect our community with the world. By organizing international travel opportunities, we take our visitors beyond local boundaries to experience firsthand the cultures and histories that shape our world. These journeys not only enrich our understanding of foreign lands but also bring new insights that deepen our appreciation for our own heritage.

Through these global experiences, the museum creates opportunities for local residents to see their own history in a new light, drawing connections between distant places and the rich, shared stories that unite us all.

Have a destination in mind?  Let us know and we'd be happy to consider adding it as our next trip!

Journey into the Land of the Rising Sun

Discover a country where ancient traditions and cutting-edge modernity exist side by side. Our journey begins in the lively neighborhoods of Osaka and winds through Kyoto’s timeless temples, the poignant memorials of Hiroshima, the storybook charm of Miyajima, and the buzzing energy of Tokyo. Along the way, we’ll stroll through historic districts and bamboo forests, marvel at castles and shrines, ride the sleek Shinkansen, and taste everything from elegant kaiseki dinners to sizzling street food. This is more than a tour—it’s a chance to experience the spirit of Japan through its culture, history, cuisine, and people.

    Itinerary

June 3 – Osaka  Arrive in Osaka and transfer to the Dotonbori district, known for its bright neon lights, bustling canals, and endless food stalls that have earned the city its reputation as Japan’s “kitchen.”

June 4 – Kyoto  Travel to Kyoto, the former imperial capital and heart of Japan’s traditional culture. Walk beneath the thousands of vermilion gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine, admire the Zen gardens of Tenryuji and the towering bamboo of Arashiyama, ride the nostalgic Sagano Scenic Railway, and marvel at the golden splendor of Kinkakuji Temple. Cap the day with a welcome dinner.

June 5 – Kyoto & Nara  Take a day trip to Nara, Japan’s first permanent capital, where you’ll see the monumental Great Buddha inside Todaiji Temple. Try your hand at a dango cooking class before returning to Kyoto to visit Sanjusangendo, a hall lined with 1,001 statues of Kannon. End the day with a tea ceremony.

June 6 – Kurashiki & Hiroshima  Board the train for Hiroshima, stopping en route at Kurashiki, famous for its preserved Bikan Old Town with Edo-period warehouses and canals. In Hiroshima, we recommend the city’s signature dish, okonomiyaki, for dinner.

June 7 – Miyajima Island  Reflect at Hiroshima’s Peace Museum and Park, then ferry to nearby Miyajima, long revered as a sacred island. Visit Itsukushima Shrine, with its torii gate appearing to float on the water, and explore the quiet temples of the forested slopes, including Daisho-in.

June 8 – Himeji & Nagoya  Ride the Shinkansen to Himeji to visit Japan’s most spectacular feudal fortress, Himeji Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to Nagoya, where an evening street food tour introduces you to the city’s lively culinary scene.

June 9 – Nagoya & Tokyo  Spend the morning at the Toyota Commemorative Museum (subject to change), which traces the company’s roots from weaving looms to global auto making. Travel onward to Tokyo, Japan’s bustling capital, and experience the energy of Shibuya in the evening.

June 10 – Tokyo  Explore Tokyo’s contrasts: the forested Meiji Shrine, colorful Takeshita Dori youth fashion street, luxury boutiques of Ginza, and the lively temple district of Asakusa with Sensoji, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple. Afterward, take in the nightlife on a guided tour of Shinjuku.

June 11 – Kamakura  Choose an optional excursion to Kamakura, a former shogunal capital filled with temples and history, or spend the day exploring Tokyo at your own pace before gathering together for a farewell dinner.

Paris & Normandy: From Royal Splendor to Coastal Legacy

Experience France through the elegance of Paris and the layered history of Normandy, where grand boulevards, medieval streets, tidal islands, and pivotal moments in world history unfold across a single journey. Our tour begins in Paris, exploring the city by panoramic coach, on foot, and by Metro, discovering its architecture, neighborhoods, and daily rhythms. Along the way, we’ll sample traditional French specialties during a guided food walking lunch, complete with wine, and gather together for shared meals that mark the beginning of our time in the City of Light.

Leaving Paris, we visit the Palace of Versailles before continuing into Normandy, where timber-framed Rouen, the harbor town of Honfleur, and the Normandy Museum in Caen introduce the region’s deep cultural roots. In Bayeux, history stretches from the 11th century to the 20th, setting the stage for a full day at Mont-Saint-Michel, where a centuries-old abbey rises dramatically above the tides.

Our journey concludes with visits to key D-Day beaches and sites, offering reflection on the events of June 1944, before continuing to Giverny to explore the gardens and museum associated with Claude Monet. We return to Paris with a fuller understanding of France’s artistic, royal, and wartime legacy — a journey that blends city life, countryside landscapes, and enduring history into one cohesive experience.

    Itinerary

June 14 – Arrival  Arrive in Paris and settle in at our hotel. After check-in, the afternoon is yours to rest or explore the neighborhood at your own pace — perhaps with a stroll or a café stop nearby. In the evening, we’ll gather for a welcome dinner, meeting fellow travelers and beginning our time in Paris together.

June 15 – Paris  This morning, we’ll set out on a panoramic coach tour of Paris, offering an introduction to the city’s grand boulevards, historic landmarks, and distinctive neighborhoods. Our tour concludes in Montmartre, where you’ll have time to enjoy lunch on your own and explore at your leisure — whether wandering its winding streets, browsing small shops, or simply taking in the atmosphere of this storied hilltop district.

June 16 – Paris  Today we experience Paris at street level, combining a guided walking tour with travel by Metro as we explore the city’s architecture, history, and daily rhythms up close. At midday, we’ll take a food walking tour for lunch, sampling a variety of traditional French specialties — with wine included — while learning more about the culinary traditions that shape French culture.

June 17 – Versailles & Rouen  This morning we depart Paris and travel to Versailles, where we’ll visit the palace and grounds to explore one of France’s most iconic royal residences. After time at Versailles, we continue onward to Rouen, arriving in this historic Norman city where we’ll settle in and begin discovering its medieval streets and enduring landmarks.

June 18 – Honfluer, Caen & Bayeux  We depart Rouen and travel to the harbor town of Honfleur, known for its historic port and maritime character, where we’ll have time to explore. Continuing on, we visit the Normandy Museum in Caen for deeper insight into the region’s history and culture before concluding the day in Bayeux, where we’ll settle in for the evening.

June 19 – Mont-Saint-Michel  Today is devoted to Mont-Saint-Michel, the island commune that rises dramatically from the tidal waters off the Normandy coast. We’ll visit the abbey at its summit, exploring the church, cloisters, and monastic spaces that reflect centuries of history and architecture. There will also be time to walk the narrow streets of the village below and take in views of the surrounding bay before returning for the evening.

June 20 – D-Day & Giverny  This morning we tour key D-Day beaches and sites, gaining insight into the events of June 1944 and the landscape where they unfolded. We then continue to Giverny to visit the gardens and museum associated with Claude Monet, exploring the setting that inspired many of his most well-known works. In the evening, we return to Paris, concluding at our airport hotel, with the option for those extending their stay to continue into the city.

June 21 - Depart Today guests depart for home, transferring to the airport for their return flights. For those choosing to extend their journey, the day offers the opportunity to continue exploring Paris or other regions of France independently.

This tour includes daily walking and guided exploration at a relaxed but steady pace. In Paris, we will navigate neighborhoods on foot and by Metro, which may involve stairs and standing for portions of the day. While terrain in most locations is relatively level, some destinations include uneven surfaces, cobblestones, and moderate elevation.

Supporting the Cuban People

Beginning in 2023, the CRF Museum began assisting individuals with opportunities to travel to Cuba under the OFAC General License known as "Support of the Cuban People."  These tours provide individuals the opportunity to witness firsthand the social, economic and political issues of the island while promoting independent activity intended to strengthen civil society and result in meaningful interaction between the travelers and individuals in Cuba.

In addition, CRF travelers have donated thousands of dollars in medicines, foods, and basic necessities to Cubans in need.
