Itinerary

September 11 – Arrival Arrive in Stockholm and meet for a guided walking tour introducing the area around our hotel and the city’s historic core. We’ll visit Stockholm Cathedral before continuing into Gamla Stan, the city’s Old Town, where narrow cobblestone streets, the Royal Palace, and the Nobel Prize Museum highlight centuries of Swedish history. Along the way, we’ll enjoy a tasting of traditional fried herring.

September 12 – Maritime History & Swedish Traditions Travel to Djurgården, Stockholm’s museum island, for a visit to the Vasa Museum, home to a remarkably preserved 17th-century warship built as a symbol of Sweden’s power. From there, enjoy a scenic walk along the waterfront before continuing to Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum. Here, historic buildings, farmsteads, and traditional crafts bring Sweden’s cultural history to life, including its connections to emigration and modern development. The afternoon allows time to explore further or return to the city at your own pace.

September 13 - Vaxholm & the Archipelago Travel by ferry through the Stockholm archipelago, passing islands and coastal landscapes on the way to Vaxholm, often called the “Capital of the Archipelago.” Explore this picturesque seaside town on a guided walking tour, with time to enjoy a traditional Swedish fika—coffee and cinnamon rolls—at a local café. After returning to Stockholm, discover the city’s subway system, known for its striking artwork, with visits to several of its most notable stations.

September 14 – Uppsala & Sweden’s Early Foundations Travel by private coach to Uppsala for a day exploring one of Sweden’s most historically significant regions. Begin at Gamla Uppsala, where ancient burial mounds and a historic church mark an important Viking-age ceremonial site. Continue into modern Uppsala to visit key landmarks including the Royal Castle, the university library, and Uppsala Cathedral, along with the gardens of Carl Linnaeus. After time for lunch on your own, the day concludes with a visit to Venngarn Castle for a gin tasting before returning to Stockholm.

September 15 – Royal Stockholm & Drottningholm Palace Begin the day with a guided visit to Stockholm City Hall, a landmark of Swedish architecture and the site of the Nobel Prize banquet. From there, travel by boat to Drottningholm Palace, the residence of the Swedish royal family and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the palace, its gardens, and the Chinese Pavilion, with time for lunch before returning to Stockholm by boat.

September 16 – Artipelag & Contemporary Expression Travel into the Stockholm archipelago to visit Artipelag, where art and nature come together in a striking coastal setting. Enjoy a guided walk through the outdoor exhibition spaces before experiencing an immersive installation dedicated to Alphonse Mucha, blending visual art, sound, and atmosphere. Return to Stockholm in the afternoon.

September 17 – Departure Enjoy free time in Stockholm before making your departure.

This tour includes a moderate amount of walking, typically averaging a few miles per day. Much of this takes place on city streets, including uneven surfaces such as cobblestones in historic areas like Gamla Stan. Participants should be comfortable walking for extended periods, standing during guided visits, and navigating stairs and varied terrain. The pace is manageable, with regular breaks, but a reasonable level of mobility is recommended to fully enjoy the experience.

Terms and Conditions

1. Payment Terms A non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration. Deposits may be paid by credit card with no additional fee. Remaining balances must be paid by check (payable to CRF Museum) or by credit card with an additional 3% processing fee.

2. Cancellation Policy Participants may cancel at any time; however, all payments made to date are non-refundable. If a participant cancels and we are able to fill the vacated space with another traveler, the CRF Museum will refund the amount recoverable based on payments received and any unrecoverable expenses. In the event of circumstances beyond our control — including but not limited to nationwide lockdowns, natural disasters, war, government actions, or other emergencies — the CRF Museum reserves the right to cancel the tour. In such cases, the museum will refund the maximum amount recoverable according to agreements with our travel partners.

3. Minimum Participation Requirement A minimum of 10 participants is required for the tour to operate. Registrations are confirmed in the order payment is received. Guests will be notified once the minimum has been met. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, the tour will be canceled and all payments made will be fully refunded.

4. Itinerary Changes While we intend to follow the published itinerary, schedules, accommodations, transportation, and activities are subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control. Any adjustments will be made with care and in the best interest of the group.

5. Travel Documentation & Requirements All guests are responsible for ensuring passport status and meeting all travel requirements. The CRF Museum and our travel partners cannot be held liable if your trip is impacted by health, legal, or other issues out of our control. If you need to renew or apply for a new passport, visit here.

6. Travel Insurance We encourage guests to purchase travel insurance or use a credit card with automatic coverage when purchasing airfare. CRF Museum and travel partners cannot be held liable for any loss of funds due to termination or changes to your trip.

7. Independent Travel Arrangements Guests arranging additional travel components — including pre- or post-tour hotel stays, optional activities, or travel insurance — may do so independently. For those seeking assistance, our curator is an advisor with Seven League Travel and can assist with arrangements outside of the museum’s group tour. Any such services are separate from the CRF Museum and may result in advisors receiving commission. The CRF Museum is not responsible for independently arranged services.

8. Travel Agreement & Waiver All participants are required to complete and sign a Travel Agreement and Waiver Release prior to departure. Documents will be provided following registration. Participation is contingent upon receipt of these signed forms.

Itinerary

November 2 – Arrival in San Juan

Arrive in San Juan and meet your tour coordinator for a program orientation, where we’ll review the itinerary, answer questions, and provide important information for the week ahead. Afterwards, enjoy a guided walk through the neighborhood surrounding our hotel, offering a first glimpse of Puerto Rico’s vibrant atmosphere before gathering for a welcome dinner to kick off our journey.

November 3 – Old San Juan & Puerto Rican Cuisine
Spend the day exploring the colorful streets of Old San Juan, one of the oldest European settlements in the Americas. A guided walking tour will introduce the city’s cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and historic plazas while sharing the stories that have shaped Puerto Rico for more than five centuries. Later, participate in a hands-on cooking workshop, learning to prepare traditional Puerto Rican dishes before enjoying the meal together.

November 4 – Puerto Rican Art & the Bioluminescent Bay
Visit the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico in Santurce, where galleries showcase the island’s artistic traditions, history, and contemporary culture. The afternoon offers free time to relax or explore San Juan. Those who choose the optional excursion will travel to Fajardo after sunset, experiencing one of Puerto Rico’s greatest natural wonders as you kayak through a glowing bioluminescent bay, where countless microscopic organisms illuminate the water with every paddle stroke.

November 5 – Loíza & Afro-Puerto Rican Heritage
Travel to Loíza, widely regarded as the heart of Afro-Puerto Rican culture, for a day of immersive cultural experiences. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the community before participating in a traditional Vejigante mask workshop, where you’ll learn about one of Puerto Rico’s most recognizable artistic traditions. The day concludes with a lively Toque de Bomba experience, introducing the music, dance, and rhythms that remain central to the island’s cultural identity, followed by a farewell dinner celebrating the journey.

November 6 – Departure
Enjoy breakfast in Old San Juan before transferring to the airport for your flight home, taking with you unforgettable memories of Puerto Rico’s history, culture, and welcoming communities.

This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, typically 2–4 miles per day, on a variety of surfaces including cobblestone streets and uneven pavement. Participants should be comfortable walking for extended periods, standing during guided tours, climbing stairs, and carrying luggage, as our historic hotel does not have an elevator. The itinerary also includes a bioluminescent bay kayak tour, which requires participants to enter and exit a kayak and paddle at a leisurely pace. A reasonable level of mobility is recommended to fully enjoy the experience.

Join the CRF Museum for an extraordinary expedition to the world’s most remote continent. We will cross the legendary Drake Passage and enter a breathtaking realm of towering glaciers, immense icebergs, snow-covered mountains, and remarkable wildlife. Along the Antarctic Peninsula, each day brings new possibilities—from watching penguins gather along the shore to spotting seals resting on the ice and whales surfacing among the bergs.

Our home throughout this adventure will be the MS Roald Amundsen, HX Expeditions’ purpose-built, hybrid-powered expedition ship. Named for the legendary Norwegian polar explorer, the ship was designed specifically for voyages in polar waters. Its Scandinavian-inspired interiors, expansive observation areas, floor-to-ceiling windows, outside-facing cabins, restaurants, lounges, sauna, hot tubs, and infinity pool provide a comfortable and welcoming retreat amid some of the most dramatic scenery on Earth.

At the heart of the ship is its interactive Science Center, where advanced equipment, hands-on demonstrations, workshops, and expert-led lectures help guests better understand the world unfolding beyond the windows. HX’s Expedition Team includes specialists in fields such as wildlife, history, climate, geology, marine biology, and polar exploration. Guests may also participate in citizen-science projects that contribute to a greater understanding of these remote environments.

When conditions permit, the Expedition Team will lead small-boat cruises among the ice and escorted landings along the Antarctic Peninsula. Because weather, wildlife, and sea ice guide each day’s activities, no two Antarctic expeditions are exactly alike. That spirit of discovery is part of what makes the experience so remarkable.

Itinerary

Day 1 — Buenos Aires

Your Antarctic adventure begins in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s vibrant capital and the birthplace of tango. After checking into your included hotel, the day is yours to enjoy at leisure.

Discover the city’s grand European-inspired architecture, colorful neighborhoods, inviting cafés, and traditional parrillas serving Argentine steak. Travelers wishing to explore more of Buenos Aires may choose to arrive several days before the expedition.

Day 2 — Buenos Aires to Ushuaia

Begin the day with an early flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, the capital of Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego Province and one of the southernmost cities in the world.

Surrounded by mountains and overlooking the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia is the gateway to Antarctica. Upon arrival, transfer to the harbor and board your hybrid-powered HX expedition ship.

After settling into your cabin, meet the Expedition Team and attend an important safety and expedition briefing. The ship then sets sail toward the Drake Passage and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Included: Economy flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, transfers, breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Days 3–4 — Crossing the Drake Passage

Spend two days crossing the legendary Drake Passage on the journey south to Antarctica.

During the crossing, the Expedition Team will prepare you for the experiences ahead. Visit the onboard Science Centre and attend presentations about Antarctic wildlife, exploration history, glaciology, climate change, and environmental protection.

You will also learn about safe and responsible landings, biosecurity procedures, and opportunities to participate in citizen-science projects. Between presentations, enjoy the ship’s restaurants, observation areas, Explorer Lounge, fitness facilities, sauna, pool, and wellness space.

Watch from the outside decks for albatrosses, petrels, whales, and the first icebergs announcing your arrival in Antarctic waters.

Days 5–9 — Exploring Antarctica

Spend five remarkable days exploring the Antarctic Peninsula and its surrounding islands.

Each day’s activities will be determined by weather, wind, sea, wildlife, and ice conditions. Rather than following a fixed port schedule, the captain and Expedition Team will select the safest and most rewarding locations available.

Possible experiences include:

Escorted landings on Antarctic shores
Zodiac cruises among icebergs and sea ice
Visits to penguin colonies
Whale, seal, and seabird watching
Guided walks through dramatic polar landscapes
Onboard lectures and scientific presentations
Citizen-science activities
Optional kayaking or other small-group adventures, subject to availability and conditions

You may see gentoo, chinstrap, or Adélie penguins alongside seals and Antarctic seabirds. Wildlife varies throughout the season. Penguins court and build nests early in the season, chicks begin hatching around December and January, and whale sightings generally become more frequent in February and March.

Towering glaciers, enormous sculpted icebergs, snow-covered mountains, and the extraordinary stillness of the polar wilderness provide the setting for each day. No two Antarctic expeditions are identical, and specific landing sites or wildlife encounters cannot be guaranteed.

Days 10–11 — The Drake Passage

After five days in Antarctica, turn north and begin the return crossing of the Drake Passage.

These two days at sea offer time to reflect on the expedition, organize photographs, look for wildlife from the observation decks, and attend final presentations from the Expedition Team.

Relax in the Explorer Lounge, sauna, pool, or wellness area while sharing memories of the journey with fellow travelers.

Day 12 — Ushuaia to Buenos Aires

Arrive back in Ushuaia and disembark the expedition ship. Transfer to the airport for the included flight to Buenos Aires, where the HX program concludes.

Travelers may continue home or extend their stay in Argentina with independent arrangements or an optional HX post-expedition program.

Important Itinerary Information

This is an expedition itinerary rather than a conventional cruise schedule. All landings, Zodiac cruises, activities, and destinations are subject to weather, sea, and ice conditions. The captain and Expedition Team may change the daily program at any time to protect guest safety and provide the best experience available.

Specific Antarctic landing sites are intentionally not guaranteed.

This expedition requires a reasonable level of mobility, balance, and general fitness. Activities may include boarding and exiting Zodiac boats, climbing gangways or stairs, and participating in wet landings where guests step from a boat into shallow water before walking ashore. Terrain can be rocky, snowy, icy, slippery, or uneven, and there may be periods of standing and walking in cold, windy, and rapidly changing weather conditions.

Most excursions are not strenuous, and guests may usually participate at a comfortable pace. However, travelers should be able to walk independently for moderate distances, maintain their balance on moving boats, and get into and out of Zodiacs with assistance from the expedition crew. Optional activities may be more physically demanding and can be skipped.

Your Ship: MS Roald Amundsen

Purpose-built for polar exploration, MS Roald Amundsen combines advanced expedition capabilities with modern Scandinavian comfort. Named for the legendary Norwegian explorer who was first to reach the South Pole, the ship uses hybrid electric propulsion designed to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by approximately 20 percent.

Warm, stylish interiors feature natural materials such as oak, birch, granite, and wool, while every cabin offers an outside view and many include private balconies. Between adventures, guests can enjoy three restaurants, the panoramic Explorer Lounge & Bar, an infinity pool, outdoor hot tubs, a sauna, a fitness room, and a wellness center. A two-level indoor and outdoor observation deck provides an ideal place to watch for whales, seabirds, and passing icebergs.

At the heart of the ship is the interactive Science Center, where the Expedition Team hosts lectures, workshops, and hands-on activities covering Antarctic wildlife, history, climate, photography, and polar science. With a minimum of 10 participants, a museum representative will accompany the group to provide dedicated support throughout the journey.

An additional $750 payment is due by June 30, 2027, and the remaining balance is due by September 10, 2027. Reservations are not confirmed until payment and all required registration information have been received.

4. Itinerary and Activity Changes - The published itinerary, landing sites, activities, transportation, and accommodations are subject to change. Antarctic operations depend on weather, sea, ice, wildlife, and safety conditions. The ship’s captain, HX Expedition Team, local authorities, or CRF Museum may modify or cancel any portion of the program when necessary.

Specific landings, activities, and wildlife encounters cannot be guaranteed. Changes made for safety, environmental protection, or circumstances beyond our control do not constitute grounds for a refund.

5. Passports and Travel Requirements - Each participant is responsible for maintaining a valid passport and satisfying all visa, immigration, vaccination, entry, and documentation requirements. Registration information must match the participant’s passport.

CRF Museum and its travel partners are not responsible for denied boarding, denied entry, or other losses resulting from incomplete, inaccurate, or invalid documentation.

6. Medical Screening and Fitness to Travel - Every participant must complete the medical screening required by HX Expeditions and receive approval to travel. Participants are responsible for submitting all required forms accurately and by the deadline established by HX.

Failure to complete the screening or receive medical clearance may result in cancellation. Any refund will be limited to amounts returned by HX or other suppliers, less the nonrefundable museum expedition fee and any nonrecoverable expenses.

Participants must promptly report any material change in health or mobility that occurs after medical approval.

7. Required Travel Insurance - Comprehensive travel insurance is required by HX. Coverage must include emergency medical treatment, medical evacuation, and repatriation from Antarctica. HX recommends at least $200,000 in medical-evacuation coverage.

Participants should also obtain coverage for trip cancellation, interruption, delay, baggage loss, and independently purchased travel arrangements. Proof of qualifying insurance may be required before departure. CRF Museum and its travel partners are not responsible for losses that could have been covered by travel insurance.

8. Antarctic Conduct and Environmental Requirements - All participants must follow the instructions of the ship’s captain, Expedition Team, crew, CRF Museum representative, local authorities, and applicable Antarctic Treaty and IAATO visitor guidelines.

Participants must comply with wildlife-distancing rules, biosecurity procedures, landing restrictions, and all measures intended to protect Antarctica’s environment. Removing natural or historic objects, disturbing wildlife, leaving waste, or entering restricted areas is prohibited.

A participant may be excluded from an activity or the remainder of the program, without refund, if their conduct threatens safety, disrupts the group, or violates environmental requirements.

9. Independent Travel Arrangements - International airfare, pre- or post-tour accommodations, optional activities, insurance, and other independently arranged services are separate from the CRF Museum program.

Seven League Travel may assist with additional arrangements. Advisors may receive commissions from those bookings. CRF Museum is not responsible for independently purchased or separately contracted services.

10. Circumstances Beyond Our Control - CRF Museum may modify, postpone, or cancel the program because of severe weather, natural disaster, public-health emergency, war, civil unrest, government action, transportation disruption, supplier failure, or another circumstance beyond its reasonable control.

In such cases, refunds will be limited to amounts recoverable from HX and other suppliers after deduction of the nonrefundable museum portion and any nonrecoverable expenses.

11. Travel Agreement and Waiver - All participants must complete and sign the required Travel Agreement, liability waiver, health documentation, and supplier forms. Participation is contingent upon timely receipt of these documents.

Participants are also bound by the applicable terms and conditions of HX Expeditions, transportation providers, accommodations, excursion operators, and other suppliers.
